Fat Kid Friday is a video series spotlighting exuberant dishes across Oahu. Crazy, ginormous or over-the-top luxe, these are the broke-the-mouth dishes we push across the table and tell our friends, “Try this. TRY IT.”Livestock Tavern's Pulled Turkey "Fork & Knife" ($16) is available through Dec. 4. - Photo by Thomas Obungen.
Fat Kid Friday has tons to be grateful for ... especially in this season of bounty! This tour of Thanksgiving across Honolulu spotlights dishes that take the traditional feast to the next level. The best part? You can indulge in these even after the holiday.
We start our feast with Livestock Tavern's Pulled Turkey "Fork & Knife," a a gloriously thick, meltingly moist turkey sandwich with Texas toast, mashed potatoes and lots of gravy. Then we dive into La Tour Cafe's larger-than-life pumpkin mochi Kouign Amann pie, whose six pastries crisp like the dreams of angels, punctuated with chunks of chewy mochi and pumpkin pie filling. The feast wraps at Wang Chung's in Waikiki with a cornbread stuffing waffle topped with tender slabs of juicy turkey, gravy and homemade cranberry sauce.
